Kakobuy Spreadsheet sales numbers: what a big count tells you

A sales counter reports activity under a marketplace’s own definition. Check the unit and time period before reading it as completed orders. Here is where the number sits on a Kakobuy product page, what it can tell you, and the three things it never covers.

Where the sales number sits on a Kakobuy product page

When you paste a Taobao, Tmall, 1688 or JD link into Kakobuy, the product page pulls the listing in: title, price in yuan with a dollar estimate, the colour swatches and sizes, and two counters. In the tutorial image above, Sales: 214661 sits under the photo gallery and In stock: 974685 sits beside the quantity box.

Notice what the page does with those numbers. The sales counter is placed under the gallery, next to the share and collect buttons, far from the colour and size selectors. It is one figure for the listing. The static tutorial does not demonstrate how that count changes when a swatch is selected. The "Source of the product" strip tells you which marketplace the figure came from, here alibaba, which is the 1688 wholesale site.

On catalogue cards you often see the same kind of figure, abbreviated. The source is the marketplace in both cases. Kakobuy does not audit it, and neither do we.

What a sales count can help you investigate

Use the count as a prompt for three checks:

  • Activity: a reported count can make a listing worth examining. It does not independently establish a real seller, completed deliveries or protection against fraud.
  • Price comparison: open other listings for the same specification. A total does not show the prices paid, promotions applied or value of the current offer.
  • The listing is worth checking. Popularity is a fair way to choose what to look at first. It is a poor way to decide what to buy.

That is the honest ceiling. Everything past it, from the colour you want to the stitching on the piece you get, is outside what the counter measures. The beanie ring above is a good picture of the problem: fifteen colours, one number.

What it does not prove: your colour, your size, your piece

Check whether the counter applies to the listing, a variant or a particular period. The tutorial screenshot alone does not establish that definition. Even a genuine total cannot show whether your selected size, colour or current production run matches earlier purchases.

Kakobuy's free inspection then narrows the gap only so far. For clothing, help article 76 lists colour, size (as written in your final order comment), large-area damage and other common major issues. It excludes colour difference, loose threads and tiny issues. For electronics the inspector checks accessories and physical damage and does not test function. The inspection scope includes the size label, but review the photos yourself. A size that is correctly labelled and still wrong for you does not.

The stock number and the out-of-stock message

A displayed stock count can be stale. Help article 86 answers a question many buyers ask: why does Kakobuy say an item is out of stock when the marketplace still shows it? Because some sellers do not update their online inventory in time. Kakobuy double-checks with the seller, keeps you posted, and in the end the seller's actual stock decides.

In practice this means a popular variant can still be unavailable when the agent asks the seller. Kakobuy's cancellation rules then apply: if the purchase cannot go ahead, an order at the processing stage is cancelled and the money returns to your Kakobuy balance (help article 87). Two habits help. Order the second-choice colour in the same order only if you would truly wear it, and keep the size note in the remarks so a substitute offer from the seller can be judged against it.

1688: check the sale unit and the carton-handling limit

The towel in Kakobuy's tutorial came from 1688, China's wholesale marketplace, and that is where sales numbers get biggest and mean least to a single buyer. A 1688 sale can be a carton. The listing's unit price and shipping change with quantity, every seller sets a minimum order, and an order below that minimum is invalid: you cancel and place it again with the right quantity (help article 90).

One line in that article matters more than the rest. Kakobuy counts the number of boxes and does not guarantee the number of pieces inside each box. If quantity or quality is off, it can coordinate between you and the seller, nothing more. A six-figure wholesale counter still needs its unit and counting period explained. It tells you nothing about whether your box of twelve holds twelve.

What fills the gap a sales count leaves

A targeted photo can resolve a visible question. Once the order shows as in stock, Kakobuy's personalised photograph service takes the pictures you ask for at 2 yuan per photo and lists a 24-hour internal-message delivery target in the captured terms (help article 114). Put the product ID (the OG number) and the exact request in the remarks: chest width laid flat with a tape, the inside label, the logo up close.

Compare the requested photo with the shop’s size chart and the exact order remark. An extra-photo request does not pause a return deadline. The captured eligible guarantee uses 120 hours from the next hour after Stocked in; seller acceptance and exclusions still apply. Read the return conditions before waiting for more evidence.

Read the unit before comparing

A counter labelled sales may count units, orders or activity over a particular period. Record its label and date. Compare the same variant and quantity across listings; two totals with different definitions are not a useful ranking.

A smaller counter can be the more relevant evidence

Suppose one page shows a large lifetime total across many options while another shows recent purchases of the exact size you need. Those counts answer different questions. Write down the period, unit and variant before comparing them, and check whether either page provides useful measurements or recent item-specific feedback.

If neither explains its counter, leave the popularity comparison unresolved. You can still compare the current specification, price and return terms. Read conflicting reviews as questions to investigate rather than filling the missing definition with a quality score.
